South Asian Community or Education and Research (SACCER) Trust, Nagarcoil, Tamilnadu

This project deals with vocational training for women in the fishing villages of Kooduthazhai, Kootapani, Arockiapuram, Chinnamuttam and Kovalam, affected by the Tsunami last December. Deprived of their traditional trade of selling fish, many women were rendered powerless. SACCER is helping them learn alternative skills such as embroidery and cloth stitching. So far, two sewing machines, one embroidery machine, a cutting table and other assorted items have been delivered to each of the to five coastal villages. SACCER is employing local sewing/embroidery teachers to train the women.
