Summary:Belaku Trust in Karnataka primarily focusing on women and children's health/nutrition and vocational training in 13 villages 80 Km south of Bangalore. Three health sessions were held with 50 women's groups to improve health nutrition of pregnant women and young children. In Kadahalli village, women have learned to make handmade paper and are producing note bags, writing paper, cards and handbags. Money from the sale of these products augment their income and thus the well being of their families. In Halsur village, women have been trained to print fabric by hand with wooden blocks and make household and cleaning items from printed cloth. They have fostered income generation groups for women in two villages Kadahalli and Halasur that are self supporting by the sale of paper and fabric goods, and are starting a third group in Achalu village. They have developed pre-school programs for small children and have provided scholarships for four adolescent girls to continue their education. Belaku Trust is mainly focused on children’s education, vocational training, health/nutrition issues of women and their children in villages 80 Km south of Bangalore. The anganwadi program (child development) in six pre-schools is being expanded to include nutrition component. A total of 10 days of summer camp was held for kids from six villages. The aim of the camp was to bring out the creative side of the children by involving them in art activities, cultural events and sports and education mixed with an environment of fun and equal participation.
