Their November 3, 2007 report: "We have been running six non-formal education centers for 217 students. Students have been learning Bengali alphabets, reading simple words, and counting. Forty girls have undergone 3-months of training in cooking modern food items. Trained girls have started working in domestic service. Thirty girls have been undergoing training in Ayah nursing and aged care. Mothers of these children have been involved in mainstreaming their wards in the right direction."
In the second year of a 3-year project training rag picker girls in cooking, nursing, doll making and garment making. They have been running six non-formal schools in Kolkata for 217 students. 98% of the students have learned Bengali alphabets, vowels and words and numerical counting. Forty girls have undergone training in garment making, cooking and have learnt to make curries, meat and fish dishes. JVSS is organizing them in self-help groups and helping them with seed money for income generation. The trained girls are also being employed in domestic service. Seventy five days of nursery training have been provided to 30 girls and they have formed a nursing care unit to look after aged persons. |
