| This was a one-time emergency grant to fishermen in fishing villages near Nellore that were hit by the Tsunami in December 2004. While the boats were quickly repaired, shortage of fishing nets and increase in prices due to high-demand resulted in fishermen thrown out of work. At the request of RRS, PPI funded an emergency program to help them. The funds were used to quickly repair the fishing nets and resume fishing operations. Mr. Mohan writes that the fishing net material for 128 boats in 10 fishing villages were purchased to repair the net and put the fisherman back on waters. |
